It is easy to get caught up in the numbers when talking about technology. Companies love listing off screen sizes, display resolutions, and processor speeds, but the actual person using the screen doesn’t always get the same spotlight.
That is where ViewSonic’s Pro AV team takes a different approach. Operating under their guiding principle, “People First, Pro AV Ready,” they measure success by how easily someone can use their tech in the real world, rather than how good it looks on a spec sheet. Instead of designing their products in a vacuum, they focus on finding everyday friction points and building straightforward solutions that just work.
In this edition of Behind the Screens, we spoke with three members of the Pro AV team to see what that looks like in practice. Each brings a distinct perspective on what solving for the user actually means: Weitsen, the business manager who’s constantly listening to frontline feedback; Phoebe, the software lead who turns insights into solutions; and Luke, the business team’s leader, who builds on-the-ground trust with partners in the field.
Before a product gets built or updated, someone has to notice something needs to change. At ViewSonic, that is where Weitsen Wei comes in.
While research and market strategy take up a lot of his time, a big part of Weitsen’s role as Business Manager comes down to listening and deciding how to act on what he hears. He regularly connects with sales teams and global colleagues to spot what users struggle with in the field. For example, when he kept hearing about how frustrating it was for someone to simply share a laptop or phone screen in a meeting room, he brought the issue straight back to the team.
"One thing I appreciate about our team is how quickly we can align around a real user problem," Weitsen says. "When we see a problem that genuinely needs fixing, we gather the right people, agree on what is broken, and start solving it."
Instead of adding more cables or heavy software, the team came up with a plug-and-play solution that users can connect directly to a laptop or phone. No Wi-Fi passwords, no downloads, and no more wasted meeting time. Today, that simple fix helps people present effortlessly in thousands of classrooms and offices around the world.
Deciding how to act on feedback is only the first step. Turning those insights into simple, intuitive tech falls to Phoebe Yang. As lead for software experience, Phoebe and her team shape everything a user interacts with on screen, from the moment a display turns on to its daily menus and initial setup.
When feedback showed that setting up new displays felt overly tedious, her team took a step back to understand how products were actually being deployed in the field.
"Rather than assuming every setup follows the same pattern, we gathered feedback to better understand how our screens are actually used in different environments," Phoebe explains.
That shifted their entire approach. Instead of confronting users with endless technical choices, the display now guides users to select the setup mode that best fits how the screen will be used. Based on that selection, the screen configures its core settings automatically. Someone setting up multiple displays across a building no longer needs to tweak dozens of options manually, making setup faster and far more consistent.
Having reliable hardware and easy software gets you through the door, but long-term success comes down to human trust. In Pro AV, where a single installation often brings together technologies and expertise from multiple companies, that trust matters even more. Luke Chen leads those efforts on the ground.
As head of the business team, Luke spends a fair share of his time building relationships with Pro AV system integrators around the world. While ViewSonic provides the technology, local partners bring something no spec sheet can match: years of local experience, a deep understanding of their community, and teams on the ground who are there every day to support the customer.
"Technology is essential, but this is ultimately a people-first business," Luke says. "Local partners see how our screens are used in the real world every day. Trust is built by listening to them, having their backs, and solving challenges together."
A clear example happened recently in Japan with Pro AV system integrator partner VEGA, which was supporting a project at a high-end hotel. Because of the venue's historical status, mounting heavy screens on the walls was impossible. ViewSonic brought a foldable, mobile display that could easily move between event spaces, while VEGA provided the local integration, event setup, and on-site support team required to run it smoothly.
To make sure the launch went off without a hitch, leaders from both companies rolled up their sleeves and joined the installation team directly on the floor. Combining smart product design with deep local expertise, and showing up in person, turned a single project into a lasting partnership.
Three people, three very different jobs. But Weitsen, Phoebe, and Luke all agree on one core idea: technology is only part of the equation.
Certifications, software updates, and reliable hardware are simply the baseline for being "Pro AV Ready." What turns those features into meaningful tools are the people listening, collaborating, and problem-solving behind the scenes. By starting with real human frustration and ending with real human trust, the team ensures that their technology doesn't just work on paper, but actually makes life a little easier for the people using it every day.
